Our Story
Gemstones Brazil is an international wholesaler specialising in exceptional loose gemstones, ethically sourced from artisanal mines in the Jequitinhonha Valley of Minas Gerais — one of the world's most celebrated mineral-rich regions.
Founded with Purpose
Gemstones Brazil was founded by Maíra Toledo in Barcelona in 2008, rooted in a rich family heritage of mining and gemstone production in Minas Gerais. Maíra's family owned and managed a mine in the northeast of the region, giving her an intimate understanding of the craft from the ground up.
With a degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Barcelona, Maíra brings a deep commitment to sustainable and responsible sourcing — honouring tradition while embracing a modern, environmentally conscious approach.
From Barcelona to Scotland
In 2011, Gemstones Brazil relocated to Scotland, where we continued to grow and evolve. We launched our online store, bringing our carefully curated gemstones to customers across the UK, the US, continental Europe, and beyond. Alongside our digital presence, we began exhibiting at fairs and events throughout the UK — connecting directly with jewellers, designers, and collectors.
Our Collection
Our collection spans a wide range of exceptional gemstones — from rare emeralds and aquamarines to vibrant tourmalines and morganites, and sparkling topaz and citrines. Every stone is produced by skilled artisanal miners in Brazil, selected for its quality, character, and provenance.
Our Commitment
We are proud to uphold green initiatives and maintain all required licences and certifications — including our Environmental Impact Assessment Certificate. Transparency is at the heart of everything we do. We provide detailed provenance information for most of our stones, and we take our responsibilities to our team, our customers, and the environment with the utmost seriousness. Our goal is to build lasting relationships grounded in trust, respect, and a shared love of ethically produced gemstones.
